Bile duct cancer

Also known as cholangiocarcinoma, is a type of cancer that begins in the bile ducts, which are tubes that carry bile from the liver to the small intestine.
The symptoms of bile duct cancer may include jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes), abdominal pain, itching, fever, nausea, and unexplained weight loss. However, in the early stages, bile duct cancer may not cause any symptoms.

The exact cause of bile duct cancer is not fully understood, but risk factors include chronic inflammation of the bile ducts, liver disease, exposure to certain chemicals and toxins, and certain genetic conditions.

Treatment for bile duct cancer may include surgery to remove the affected bile duct, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, or a combination of these treatments. In some cases, a liver transplant may be recommended. The prognosis for bile duct cancer depends on the stage and location of the tumor, as well as the patient's overall health.
