The most common type of alopecia is androgenetic alopecia, also known as male or female pattern baldness. This type of alopecia is genetic and can be inherited from either parent. It is caused by the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is produced by the body and can cause hair follicles to shrink and stop producing hair.
Other types of alopecia include:
Treatment for alopecia depends on the underlying cause and the severity of the hair loss. For androgenetic alopecia, medications such as minoxidil and finasteride may be used to slow or stop hair loss and promote new hair growth. Hair transplantation surgery is also an option for some individuals.
For other types of alopecia, treatments may include corticosteroid injections, topical immunotherapy, or changes in medication or hairstyle. At our clinic we also use regenerative treatments for alopecia, including exosomes, stem cells, platelet rich factor, capillary growth factor.
