Sciatica

Is a condition characterized by pain that radiates along the path of the sciatic nerve, which extends from the lower back down through the hips, buttocks, and legs. It is often caused by a herniated disc, spinal stenosis, or other conditions that put pressure on the sciatic nerve.

Symptoms of sciatica may include:

  • Sharp or burning pain in the lower back, buttocks, hips, or legs
  • Numbness or tingling in the affected areas
  • Weakness or difficulty moving the legs or feet

Treatment for sciatica may include:

  • Pain relief: Over-the-counter pain relievers such as acetaminophen, ibuprofen, or naproxen may help to relieve pain and reduce inflammation.
  • Physical therapy: Exercises and stretches designed to improve flexibility and strengthen the muscles supporting the back and legs may help to reduce pain and improve function.
  • Chiropractic care: Manipulation of the spine may help to alleviate pressure on the sciatic nerve and reduce pain.
  • Acupuncture: This technique involves inserting needles into specific points on the body to help reduce pain and promote healing.
  • Surgery: In rare cases where sciatica is caused by a herniated disc or other structural problem that does not respond to other treatments, surgery may be recommended to alleviate pressure on the sciatic nerve.
